Our Material Selection

3D Printed Material

For our products, we use PLA, an eco-friendly, bio-based material. PLA is made from rapidly renewable plant starch, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional plastics. This material is produced from fermented plant starch, such as tapioca, sugarcane, or sugar beet, which is processed into polyester. (Biopak, 2024)

PLA is compostable, which breaks down in specialized industrial environments that utilise depolymerisation or hydrolysis processes. It’s important to note that it does not decompose under home conditions, only in commercial composting facilities.

Being plant-based, PLA does not contain petroleum-derived substances and does not emit harmful chemicals, making it safer for human health. Compared to traditional plastics, it presents a more sustainable solution, as it exerts less environmental impact throughout its manufacturing and life cycle.

Wooden Material

Wood is a natural and environmentally friendly choice that offers numerous benefits. Being free from harmful chemicals, it provides a safe alternative to plastic products. Due to its durability and strength, wooden items ensure long-term use, making them ideal for both everyday applications and special occasions. Additionally, their warm, aesthetic appearance blends seamlessly with modern home designs, contributing to a pleasant living environment.

The use of wooden products can reduce the risk of skin irritations and allergic reactions, as they are less likely to irritate the skin compared to synthetic materials. Furthermore, wooden items offer an interactive experience that fosters creativity and imagination, which is particularly valuable for families.

At TGY Handmade, we choose wood because we believe in the importance of sustainably sourced materials. By utilizing wood, we not only offer beautiful and practical products but also actively contribute to environmental protection.
